Grasshopper Easter Egg – Multi coloured meshes

My Rhino 6 asked to update and I discovered a brand new feature in Grasshopper after the installation! Apparently you can now color your own easter eggs with the gradient tool! All you need is an egg mesh which you plug into the gradient tool, and voilà, it will color eggs in all kinds of colors!

Creating non-physical, negative spaces from sound – Waveforms in Grasshopper/Rhino

Today I got an email from the the Baltic International Summer School (B.I.S.S at HafenCity Universität Hamburg, HCU) with a link to the newly (online) published book about the workshop in which I was a participant in the summer of 2016. The topic of the workshop was "Urban futures - think the link". But my group went so far to explore the missing link - "What if bridges die?". We recorded the sound of bridges, and with the help of the plugin Mosquito for Grasshopper it was possible to import the waveform of the audio into Rhino. Based on the wave form we created a digital and physical representation of the sound.

The missing ellipse – Grasshopper plugin

In Rhino there are a few options to create ellipses, but let's face it, it's not every time that know the two radii or foci of the ellipse, but rather only one radii and one point on the boundary. Why is the option to create an ellipse with these paramaters not already in the software? It's actually a simple mathematical problem, and quite easy to script. So that's what I did! The grasshopper component I wrote takes three points in space and creates an ellipse (if there exists a valid ellipse for these points). The component can be downloaded at Food for Rhino and will show up under QueenBee/Geometry after being loaded into Grasshopper. Have fun modelling!

Rigid origami – Form finding and dynamic relaxation

A couple of years ago I stumbled upon the term rigid origami while doing research for a university architecture project. The project was part of a course called "Optimized structures" and our task was to conceive an optimized structure. As with most crazy architecture projects we were allowed to roam free and conceive any kind of structure as long as it was some kind of optimization. (...)
